Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery in the treatment of empyema: a case series

Background: Empyema is a condition that can be treated depending on the etiology of empyema and phase development. Open thoracotomy surgery conventional technique commonly used in has greater risk more extended postoperative hospital stay. This case series aims to evaluate Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) shorten stay lower during surgery.Case Presentation: We describe five patients, each with different presentation, clinical course, outcome. All our patients were performed VATS procedures under General Anesthesia evaluated for stays complications occur after surgery. Most experienced tolerable pain site only need 3 – 4 days post-operation before being discharged. Only one patient poor prognosis this caused admitted Intensive Care Unit using mechanical ventilator.Conclusion: In series, promising result become choice treatment empyema.
